Pictures taken from the main bird hide at St John's Pool that is next to St John's Loch near Dunnet in Caithness. The pictures were taken using an ordinary digital camera in June. The number and range of bird species varies with the breeding season and time of year, you will often find large numbers of terns in April and May. Entrance to the main observation hide is free although donations are welcome to help support the work carried out to maintain and develop the environment around the nature reserve.
To gain access to the other bird hides that are closer to the pool (and to the birds) a charge is made. You can learn more and book hides via the Facebook page - St John's Pool Bird Photography. The reserve is open from 10am to 6pm during the breeding season and outwith these times by arrangement.
